Hey all, I've been looking for a squad to join since I got this game last month, I love playing flight sims but I've never played one that was so in-depth. I think I have a decent understanding of flight tactics. I will say that I could probably use a little more practice in formation flight and I rarely roll or spin out of control =\. If this is relevant : I use a logitech gamepad to play.

Heya Jobbo
Damn... I couldn't imagine playing with a gamepad, but whatever works I suppose..
Okay, by now you may or may not have noticed that we are a german fighter squad. That doesn't mean we never fly allied planes for fun, it just seems to be the preferance of the pilots who join the jagdgeschwader and the planes we fly for our campaigns.
Because you're quite new to the game, I suggest jumping on comms with us and flying with us for a week or so. If you still think you'd be interested, then by all means, we'll give you one of our reserve bf109's and grant you a "JG26_callsign". I'm sure after you've tested the waters, you'll still want to join.
If you don't already have teamspeak.. grab it up and approach any one of our members in the hyperlobby.. They'll hook you up on our channel and get you started. They're all a good bunch of people.
We could use another Canuck. Hope to see you flying with us soon. S~

S! Jobbo, thnx for your interest in joining our ranks. First of all: it´s dangerous out there in those unfriendly cyber skies of IL-2, be sure. Using a gamepad for such a complex sim is absolutely suicide. It may work when flying offline one or two times a month, but if you plan to fly online in HyperLobby regulary, a joystick is a must have. It needs not a very expensive one at your first steps here and you don’t need a collection of several MS sidewinder 1 or 2 and Saitek X52 sticks or combinations of it, like some of us are using these days (hey Mama ;D ). You will see that immersion and fun improves exponentially when using a flight stick. Ebay may be an option as well. Catch one of us in HL if you have any further questions. S! JG26_Brubaker

I know it's weird but I find it works perfectly and I play A LOT of this game. Here's the gamepad I use. (Has 4 shoulder buttons) Oh and btw, I love using german planes. The only planes I love more than any other german manufactured ones are the spitfire and p-51 mustang.

Well who knows Brubaker.. Maybe we're old-school We'll have to take him out for a little "one on one trials" hehe. I know that as soon as those types of controllers came out, I couldn't play games using them. It seems that I'm all thumbs when it comes to using my thumbs on those analog stick things.

Hi All, What an interesting situation. We have the possibility of a new pilot without a joystick. I was wondering if Jobbofett was applying for a tail gunners position? Seriously if he wants a Test then we should be as encouraging andd friendly as always. So let me know when it is as I really want to see this one. Good luck to our possible recruit and the examiners. LOL

I have just been flying with Jobbo_fett 1 on 1 and must say that he is very impressive. I would have thought that he was using a joystick. He performed an emergency landing perfectly and flew evasive manoeuvres well. Seems like a nice guy. Once he has a joystick he should be excellent.

Heya there, good to see new (potential) people comin' in : then at least I'm not the "rookie"/"newest pilot". LOL
Anyhow, I've had -way back when- the Thrustmaster Force Feedback (HOTAS as well) and didn't enjoy it. Now I've been using, Saitek X45 and love it. Bought it on ebay and even now you'll still easily be able to find it for US$ 30-45, second hand. Excellent stick, good drivers and button-configuration-program. I'd buy the X52 if I had the money, but with the X52 I'd have to buy separate rudder as rudder isn't on the Throttle anymore.
Good luck.

You're not the first person to welcome new pilots so enthusiastically for that reason Sparta lol.
