I just wanted to see if I can destroy a solo american IL-2 (1st series) in air with a japanese Hurricane Mk.IIb (which has no cannons, just .330's). QMB, full realistic settings, not as if it mattered much. Started behind him to hurry it up.
Tried getting behind him and shooting him to death, or at least bail... Managed to make him leak fuel and oil within the first second of firing. So my hopes were high, kept shooting... damn soviet was sparking like hell, sometimes I saw a richochet bullet bouncing off his armor... He tried to turn, but naturally, my good ol' Hurricane had no problem following his course. He was also turning quite steady, and I was close, so a little deflection shooting managed to damage him even more. Then he levelled out. I was around 30 m behind him, shooting in long bursts, only pausing to steady my aim. But as I ran out of ammo, I got near him to examine the wounds. His plane was a little cheesy, half of his elevator was as if a whale bit in it, but he was still in the air, and I supposed he could have crashlanded. Pilot showed no sign of will to bail out! I had to take drastic measures...
I was desperate. He was turning away from me. I just couldn't let that happen! I followed his turn and got under his belly. Crossed my fingers, then pulled the stick to my stomach.
The IL-2's bottom section kept coming. It was rising bigger and bigger above me... FOR THE FATHERLAND!!!! yelled, and, with the sound of steel meeting steel, we collided.
My plane became immediately uncontrollable. Had to jump out ASAP, as we were fighting low. I was afraid of the vertical stabiliser hitting me, but had to take my chances. Then, after activating my parachute, I took a final glance on my downwards spiraling plane, only to notice it had no vertical stabiliser. Nor a horizontal. Nor a tail section...
Had to swim a few dozen kilometers, but it was damn worth it!
